Inflation Rises 0.5% In November 2024 In Oman

Muscat: In November 2024, the inflation rate in the Sultanate of Oman rose by 0.5% compared to the same month in 2023, based on the 2018 reference year, as reported by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) through the Consumer Price Index.

The report highlighted a notable increase in the prices of various goods and services, with miscellaneous goods and services rising by 5.5%, health by 3.2%, and food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.9%. Additionally, recreation and culture saw a 0.7% increase, as did restaurants and hotels, while clothing and footwear rose by 0.5%. Prices for furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance increased by 0.3%, and education costs went up by 0.1%.

Conversely, the transport sector experienced a decline, with prices dropping by 2.8%. Prices for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, as well as communications and tobacco, remained unchanged.

Within the food and non-alcoholic beverages category, vegetable prices surged by 11%, while milk, cheese, and eggs increased by 5.4%. Fruits saw a rise of 4.7%, oils and fats by 2.4%, and sugar, jam, honey, chocolate, and candy also increased by 2.4%. Meat prices rose by 2%, other food products by 1.7%, and non-alcoholic beverages by 0.1%. However, fish and seafood prices fell by 10.4%, and cereals and breads decreased by 0.5%.

At the governorate level, Musandam Governorate reported the highest inflation rate at the end of November 2024, with an increase of 1.4% compared to the previous year. South A’Sharqiyah Governorate followed with a 1.2% rise, while Al Wusta Governorate saw an increase of 0.9% and Al Buraimi Governorate by 0.6%.

In Muscat, North A’Sharqiyah, A’Dhahirah, and A’Dakhiliyah, the inflation rate rose by 0.5% each. Dhofar Governorate experienced a 0.4% increase, and North Al Batinah Governorate saw a rise of 0.2%. In contrast, South Al Batinah Governorate recorded a decrease of 0.3% in its
