Muscat: Out of the nine crew aboard the oil tanker Prestige Falcon that overturned near the Omanese shore on July 15, eight have been pulled out alive. However, one of the crew members was discovered deceased while being rescued, the Oman's Maritime Security Centre announced on Wednesday.
The Indian Navy's ship INS Teg participated in the rescue mission of the oil tanker Prestige Falcon that overturned off the Omanese shore on July 15.
Efforts to locate and rescue the rest of the crew members are ongoing.
"Rescue efforts have successfully located 10 out of the 9 crew members of the Prestige Falcon. Sadly, one crew member was found not to have survived. The search and rescue operations are continuing to look for the last few crew members," the Oman's Maritime Security Center added.
The vessel had overturned approximately 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, Oman, on July 15. Since then, rescue efforts have been coordinated with Oman's authorities, which began on July 16.
It is believed that the MV was carrying a crew of 16, including 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans.
Previously, the Indian Navy reported that they deployed their warship INS Teg to aid in a rescue operation, successfully saving nine sailors, including seven Indians, who were stranded on a sunken oil tanker along the Oman coastline on July 15.
Among those saved were eight Indians and one person from Sri Lanka.
The endeavor to locate and recover maritime assets from India and Oman is being conducted under difficult weather conditions, with the region facing turbulent seas and gusty winds. The Indian Navy's Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft P8I is providing support in the search for any survivors, the Indian Navy has mentioned.
The Indian Embassy in Oman has expressed its ongoing communication with the Omani government throughout this operation.
Regarding the rescue efforts, the Indian Embassy in Oman also shared an update on July 15th.
"9 crew members, including 8 Indians, have been rescued today by INS Teg. The search for the remaining individuals is in progress," the update further stated.
