Indian PM Modi Meets Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus On Sidelines Of BIMSTEC Summit

Bangkok: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in his first in-person discussion with Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus during the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, following the recent downfall of Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's administration.

PM Modi is attending the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, where he was welcomed by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra at the Government House.

The leaders took a moment to honor the victims of the earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on March 28.

In a post on X, PM Modi remarked, "Gathered with fellow BIMSTEC leaders at the Summit in Bangkok, Thailand. We reaffirm our dedication to enhancing cooperation across various sectors. May our collective efforts lead to a positive impact on people's lives."

Earlier that day, Prime Minister Modi met with Myanmar's Senior General Aung Hlaing to discuss the two nations' bilateral relations.

In another post on X, PM Modi shared, "Met Senior General Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. I once again expressed my condolences for the loss of lives and property damage caused by the recent earthquake. India is committed to supporting our friends in Myanmar during this challenging time. We also explored bilateral relations, focusing on areas such as connectivity, capacity building, and infrastructure development."

On Thursday, Prime Minister Modi and his Thai counterpart Paetongtarn Shinawatra conducted bilateral discussions, focusing on enhancing political exchanges, defense and security collaborations, and strategic partnerships between their nations.

They emphasized the importance of improving collaborations in connectivity, health, science and technology, startups, innovation, digital initiatives, education, culture, and tourism.

The 6th BIMSTEC Summit is scheduled for Friday, representing a crucial regional interaction between India and its neighboring nations within the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) framework.
