Manah, 20 Feb (ONA) --- HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said inaugurated an initiative aimed at revitalizing ancient architecture at the Oman Across Ages Museum in the Wilayat of Manah today. The event was graced by members of the Royal Family, ministers, senior officials, and architectural design experts.
During the ceremony, HH Sayyid Bilarab outlined the initiative's objectives, which include: revitalizing the Omani architectural identity by raising awareness of the significance of architectural design as a facet of national identity; encouraging community engagement with Omani architecture to appreciate its cultural, social, and economic influences; showcasing innovative contributions made by Omani architects throughout history; exploring the design and construction techniques employed by Omani architects to promote the preservation of architectural heritage while fostering successful models that blend innovation with tradition; facilitating discussions and dialogues among various societal groups regarding architectural design; creating an environment conducive to creativity and leadership; and enhancing opportunities for architects within the Omani job market.
Following this, he visited the pavilion dedicated to the “Bilarab Bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design,” where he examined 3D models of projects that secured first place in the award's inaugural and second editions. The pavilion also featured the winning design for Oman’s pavilion at the upcoming Expo 2025 in Japan.
HH Sayyid Bilarab concluded his visit by viewing a visual presentation detailing the progress made since the inception of the first edition of the Bilarab Bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design, leading up to the launch of the Architecture Revival Initiative.
The visual presentation showcased the new framework led by the Bilarab Bin Haitham Initiatives, which encompasses the Bilarab Bin Haitham Community, the Bilarab Bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design, and the Bilarab Bin Haitham Programmes. Additionally, the date for the third edition of the Bilarab Bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design was announced, set to take place towards the end of 2025.
HH Sayyid Bilarab received an overview of the interactive experience aimed at revitalizing three fundamental aspects of architecture: continuous education, innovation, and market readiness. These elements are designed to enhance traditional architecture and its resurgence in the Sultanate of Oman.
Continuous education in architecture emphasizes drawing inspiration from notable architectural practices. Innovation focuses on the techniques and methods that the Omani architect employs, particularly in the restoration of historical villages and neighborhoods, transforming them into sustainable tourist attractions that honor heritage, harmonize with the environment, foster economic growth, and address human needs.
Market readiness equips stakeholders with a comprehensive understanding of the architectural job market, raising awareness of key professional pathways related to architectural design. This initiative aims to improve graduates' preparedness for entering the workforce, uncovering job opportunities, and fostering connections among students, professionals, and business owners.
It is important to highlight that the Architecture Revival Initiative builds upon the first and second editions of the Bilarab Bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design, as well as the competition for designing the Oman Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Japan. This competition aims to enrich the architectural landscape in the Sultanate of Oman and targets diverse groups within society, including architecture enthusiasts, professionals, and students in the field.
