Heritage Ministry Organises Workshop On Combating Trafficking In Meteorites

Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism recently hosted a specialized workshop titled "Meteorites in Oman and Strategies to Combat Illicit Trade." The workshop, held under the patronage of Salim Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, aimed to empower customs inspection authorities at various checkpoints, as well as small and medium enterprises involved in tourism guidance and researchers in the field of geological heritage.

The workshop focused on combating the illegal trafficking of cultural property and raising awareness among companies involved in posts, customs clearance, and disclosure. It also addressed the role of judicial control officers and museum attendants in this regard.

Experts and specialists in the field of meteorite affairs presented working papers during the workshop. Visual presentations were also conducted to highlight the legal procedures and measures taken to control illicit trafficking of cultural property.

As part of the workshop, participants had the opportunity to explore a mini exhibition showcasing meteorites. They also learned about the Ministry's efforts in the conservation of meteorites.
