Halwa Making Is Not Just A Business But Passion For Omani Citizens

Salalah: The establishments that sell Omani Halwa, a delectable sweet, are situated at specific corners within Sahl Ateen, a designated area within the Wilayat of Salalah, located in the Dhofar Governorate.

These establishments attract a significant influx of both local residents and tourists throughout the Khareef Season, both from within Oman and internationally.

Halwa makers from various governorates converge in Dhofar Governorate to showcase and sell their products during the Khareef season.

For one of the Halwa makers, who has dedicated over three decades to this craft, the process of making Halwa transcends mere business; it is a deeply ingrained passion. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining the traditional flavor of Omani Halwa, while also adhering to strict guidelines regarding the use of healthy ingredients in the production process.

Khalfan Al Ghudhaib, the proprietor of Al Ghudaib Omani Halwa Factory, recounted his initial foray into the Khareef Dhofar season as a resounding success, highlighting the significant increase in customer traffic at his establishment.

These initiatives play a pivotal role in promoting the participation of traditional crafts and industries during the Khareef season.

He further elaborated that the factory produces five distinct varieties of Omani Halwa, each with its unique taste profile.

Hatim bin Mohammed Al Mahrioqi, the owner of the Al Shuhra Omani Halwa Factory and Al Jalilah Sweet, shared that his establishment, which has been in operation for 35 years, initially started in the Wilayat of Sinaw and has since expanded to 18 branches across various governorates.

A’arif bin Mohammed Al Kharousi, the promotion and marketing manager at Al Diwaniya Omani Halwa making factory, mentioned their strategy of utilizing Arabic cartography to personalize their products, allowing for the inclusion of customer names or any other desired expressions on the packaging.

He revealed that the factory offers a diverse selection of seven types of Omani Halwa. "We are proud to have a workforce of 160 Omani employees across our 46 branches throughout the Sultanate," he stated.

Al Khattab bin Khamis Al Qasabi, the Manager of the Salalah branch of Al Saifi Omani Halwa Factory, shared that the establishment, founded in 1973, specializes in the production and sale of various types of Omani Halwa.

He also highlighted the impressive Omanisation rate across all branches of the factory, which stands at 100%, underscoring their commitment to both the production and sale of Halwa.
