Muscat: The Embassy of India in Muscat commemorated the 78th Independence Day of India with unparalleled enthusiasm and patriotic zeal on the morning of August 15, 2024. The event was graced by the participation of over a thousand individuals, including members of the Indian diaspora, friends of India in Oman, and distinguished guests.

His Excellency Amit Narang, the Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, commenced the festivities by offering a floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, a universally revered symbol of peace and non-violence. Subsequently, the Ambassador hoisted the National Flag of India, accompanied by the rendition of the National Anthem.
3. In his address to the gathering, Ambassador Amit Narang recited passages from a speech delivered the previous evening by the Honorable President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, underscoring the significant progress India has achieved over the years and the vision for a prosperous future.

The Ambassador paid tribute to the victims and the families affected by the recent shooting incident in Al Wadi Al Kabir, extending his condolences to the family of Shri Basha Jan Ali Hussain, who tragically lost his life. He also commended the bravery and resilience of those who endured the harrowing ordeal. Furthermore, the Ambassador extended his gratitude to ROP's valiant heart, Youssef Al-Nadabi, who sacrificed his life to save others, and acknowledged the commendable efforts of the Omani authorities in managing the situation and safeguarding the lives of innocent civilians. The Ambassador reaffirmed India's solidarity with Oman in the face of all forms of violence.
5. The students of Indian School Darsait contributed a poignant element to the celebration with their performance of patriotic songs, imbuing the atmosphere with a sense of pride and joy. The event also featured the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, with participants enthusiastically capturing moments at the specially designed photo booth to commemorate this national initiative.
6. A special presentation on the 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' was also showcased, reflecting on the tragic events of the partition and the enduring spirit of the Indian people. This presentation, inaugurated by the Ambassador on August 14, underscores the significance of historical remembrance in fostering a peaceful future.
7. Later in the day, Ambassador Amit Narang presided over the Independence Day celebration at Indian School Mabela. He participated alongside dignitaries and the students for the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, launched by the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Environment Day. This initiative aims to inspire the younger generation to contribute towards environmental sustainability.
