GFOW Signs Pact To Enhance Capabilities Of Working Women In Oman

Muscat: The General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW) has formalized a collaboration agreement with Jabreen Academy, with the objective of augmenting the competencies of working women, with a particular focus on representatives of women’s committees within Oman. This agreement is centered around the development and enhancement of skills through training and development programs, encompassing areas such as training principles, presentation skills, and the art of effective influence. Furthermore, it includes workshops designed to improve the work environment and boost productivity.

The agreement was ceremoniously signed by Nabhan Ahmad Al-Battashi, the esteemed Chairman of the GFOW, and Nasir Khalid Al-Yaarubi, the distinguished CEO of Jabreen Academy.

The primary goal of this agreement is to fortify the partnership between the two entities, thereby serving the collective interests of representatives of women’s committees within trade unions and sectoral general unions, in addition to the Women’s Committee of the GFOW. It is aimed at the development and enhancement of their skills and capabilities through comprehensive training, educational, and practical programs, in alignment with the latest advancements in the labor market and labor laws and regulations, thereby contributing to the empowerment of women within the private sector.

The agreement is structured around several critical components, including the exchange of expertise between the parties, the provision of mutual benefits, and the implementation of various training programs. Notably, it features a specialized training program designed to cultivate the skills of trainers for members of women’s committees within trade unions affiliated with the GFOW. This program also offers guidance for female leaders within these committees. Moreover, Jabreen Academy will provide training programs for representatives of women’s committees across various economic sectors and conduct workshops during field visits organized by the GFOW in different governorates. These workshops are designed to enhance the work environment, increase productivity, and improve labor relations. They will address a range of topics, including training fundamentals, training methods and games, presentation and public speaking skills, the preparation of training materials, and the delivery of presentations and sessions, all in accordance with the finest global models.

In accordance with the stipulations of the agreement, a training program focused on the development of trainer skills was conducted from August 18 to 22, 2024, under the sponsorship of Advario Terminals. This program was attended by members of women’s committees within trade unions affiliated with the GFOW. The program was structured around five main areas: training fundamentals, training methods and games, presentation and public speaking skills, the preparation of training materials, and the delivery of presentations and sessions, all designed to meet the highest standards.

These initiatives are aimed at cultivating effective female leaders within the private sector, bolstering the engagement of working women in trade union activities, and further empowering them in their professional roles and representation within trade unions. As per the GFOW 2023 annual report, there has been a notable increase in the involvement of women in trade union activities, with 554 female members serving in women’s committees across 59 trade unions and 61 female members holding positions in the governing bodies of trade unions and sectoral general unions. Furthermore, four women have been appointed to the GFOW Board of Directors.
