Explore Oman’s Nature Landmarks Virtually

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MoTCIT) has initiated the first phase of a virtual tour project in the Sultanate of Oman in collaboration with the National Survey Authority (NSA) and Google.

The launch event took place under the patronage of Dr. Mohammed bin Nasser al Za'abi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence.

This service aims to provide users worldwide with the opportunity to discover Oman’s stunning natural landscapes, historical sites, and contemporary infrastructure through an innovative virtual experience.

The ceremony highlighted the importance of this service in bolstering Oman's digital footprint and its potential benefits for various sectors, including tourism and business development. Attendees were given a preview of the virtual experience, which showcased several of Oman’s landmarks and natural attractions. The discussion also focused on the upcoming second phase of the project, which plans to broaden the service's coverage to include additional sites and landmarks by 2025.

The initial phase features a curated selection of locations, such as Khor Rori, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Virtual Trekkers were utilized to capture images across an area of approximately 36,000 square kilometers.

The introduction of this service highlights Oman's commitment to fostering innovation and improving digital accessibility. It reinforces Oman's reputation as a tourist destination rich in cultural and natural attractions. This initiative represents a significant milestone in enhancing Oman's digital footprint and inviting global audiences to discover the country's remarkable offerings.
