Al Buraimi: The Environment Authority in Al Buraimi Governorate has launched an environmental contest for government sector organizations and their personnel. The goal of the project is to promote participation in the distribution and planting of wild trees as part of the national drive to plant 10 million wild trees, which the Environment Authority is undertaking throughout the Sultanate of Oman.
The competition coincides with the International Day for Biological Diversity, which is observed every year on May 22nd. This demonstrates the Authority's commitment to increasing environmental awareness among organizations and the public, as well as encouraging sustainable practices that contribute to biodiversity conservation in Oman.
As part of the program, the Authority conducted field visits to various government departments in the governorate, providing awareness lectures to educate personnel about the campaign's goals and engagement methods. The sessions also featured instructions on utilizing the Ashjar (Trees) electronic application, which allows users to request wild seedlings, and participants were invited to spread the software in their local communities.
During the meetings, visitors discussed ideas and plans for collaborative environmental projects focusing at expanding green spaces and improving inter-institutional collaboration in environmental protection.
Following the completion of the contest, the Authority will recognise the top-performing institution and personnel who showed extraordinary initiative and participation in treeplanting activities and environmental awareness campaign. The Authority also revealed intentions to broaden engagement in the next phase to include other government organizations throughout the governorate, with the goal of maximizing benefits and encouraging fair competition in environmental stewardship.
This endeavor demonstrates the Environment Authority's commitment to incorporating environmental sustainability values and its important contribution to biodiversity through enhanced wild tree cultivation. Such initiatives help with climate change adaptation and the protection of Oman's ecosystems.
