Environment Authority Chairman Calls For Urgent Action On Climate Change

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Authority, is set to host Climate Week from 24 to 27 February 2025. This event aims to bring the world together in supporting climate action and highlighting Oman's dedication to a zero-emission future.

Climate Week is particularly important due to the global emphasis on addressing climate change and promoting renewable energy as a solution to combatting global warming.

This inaugural Climate Week in Oman will feature a series of activities aimed at achieving the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2025, as agreed upon at the COP29 climate conference. The event will emphasize the importance of collaboration between governments and various sectors in order to reduce the impact of climate change.

Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, emphasized the urgency of taking action on climate change in this particular context. He highlighted the importance of increasing investments in initiatives that address climate change, such as reducing emissions, phasing out coal as an energy source, implementing a carbon pricing system, advancing climate technologies, and facilitating the transition to renewable energy.

Oman is committed to addressing climate change by prioritizing the shift to renewable energy and enacting a plan to broaden the range of solutions for achieving decarbonization. This includes the implementation of "Oman Vision 2040" and the national strategy for adapting to climate change.

Oman Climate Week serves as a platform for global industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to demonstrate the progress they have made, collaborate, exchange ideas on measures to mitigate climate change, and explore opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman and the MENA region.
