Muscat: The third edition of the Frankincense Season is scheduled to commence tomorrow, Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the Al Baleed Archaeological Park in Salalah. This event, organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, is set to last until December 6th and will be conducted across the historical sites within the Al Baleed Archaeological Park and Wadi Dokah Reserve.
Khalid bin Abdullah Al Abri, the Director General of the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, elucidated that the primary objective of this event is to underscore the historical importance of the frankincense tree. The program will feature live demonstrations of the manufacturing process of frankincense products, scientific and cultural activities tailored for children, and an exhibition showcasing perfumes and frankincense-based products from local companies.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a live performance that recreates the ancient civilizations that engaged in trade with Oman for frankincense. Furthermore, the event will provide a diverse range of activities, including dining at a restaurant, boat tours in Khor Al Baleed, and performances by a children's theater. The organizers have also committed to planting 100 frankincense trees in Wadi Doka Reserve and will celebrate the addition of the Frankincense Land sites to the UNESCO World Heritage List on December 2nd.
The Frankincense Season is designed to highlight the historical and touristic attractions of Dhofar Governorate, attract visitors throughout the year, and serve as a platform for innovators and researchers in the field of frankincense.
