Indian Schools Expand CCTV Coverage

Muscat: All Indian schools in Oman are already equipped with CCTV systems, and more cameras are being installed to eliminate blind spots and provide full surveillance across campuses.

Syed Salman, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Indian Schools in Oman, told the Times of Oman that the schools are already in accordance with the newest advise provided by India's Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which requires CCTV coverage to safeguard students' physical and emotional safety.

"Since the start of each school, we've had operational CCTV networks in all of our schools," Salman said.

"Now, we are in the process of increasing coverage by deploying cameras in blind spots. To guarantee that these upgrades are implemented successfully, a separate budget has been established.

The CBSE advice, released earlier this week, directs affiliated schools to install monitoring in classrooms, corridors, entrance and exit locations, and other critical locations. It also emphasizes the significance of keeping footage for at least 30 days and providing real-time monitoring, especially during school hours and tests.

Salman stated that Indian schools in Oman have already adopted these practices and are continuing to invest in infrastructure improvements in order to stay ahead of safety regulations. "Our systems are not only in place, but they are actively monitored and evaluated on a regular basis to ensure effectiveness," he added. "Safety is a shared responsibility — and a top priority. "

With over 45,000 pupils enrolled in 22 Indian schools throughout the Sultanate, both parents and teachers hailed the decision as a critical step toward establishing a safe learning environment.
