Salalah: Today, during a press conference, the Dhofar Municipality announced its forthcoming sporting events, which include the “Ironman 70.3 Triathlon”, now known as the “Dhofar Municipality Ironman 70.3”.
Dr. Ahmed Mohsin Al Ghassani, the Chairman of the Dhofar Municipality, conveyed that the Ironman 70.3 triathlon (composed of swimming, biking, and running segments) is expected to attract numerous athletes globally, providing them with the opportunity to participate in additional sports events hosted by the Municipality, such as the Dhofar Municipality Race, Salalah Half Marathon, “She Runs”, and the “Iron Child Race”.
Furthermore, Mohammed Khalfan Al Obaidani, the CEO of the Middle East Triathlon Company, informed the reporters that the forthcoming edition of the Dhofar Municipality Ironman 70.3 Triathlon is slated for October 2024. This timing aligns with the Municipality's initiative to showcase the governorate beyond the conventional Khareef (monsoon) season.
Al Obaidani further elaborated that the opening of the Ironman 70.3 racing season in the Middle East will coincide with the end of the season of similar events in Europe.
It was also announced that 500 participants from 56 countries will compete for 40 qualifying spots in the “Fun Fast” Ironman 70.3 World Championship’s preliminary rounds, which will be held in Spain in 2025. Ammar Obed Al Katheri, the Director of the Department of Events Management within the Municipality of Dhofar, emphasized this achievement.
