The 43rd session of the Council of Arab Ministers for Social Affairs in Cairo saw the participation of the Sultanate of Oman. During the meeting, it was agreed to establish a temporary fund, which will be open for six months and can be renewed, to provide support and assistance to over 350,000 families in the Gaza Strip.
Leading the delegation from Oman was Her Excellency Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al Najjar, the Minister of Social Development. The meeting, which lasted for three days, concluded with this decision.
Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman actively participated in the 43rd session of the Council of Arab Ministers for Social Affairs in Cairo. During the meeting, it was agreed to establish a temporary fund, which will be open for six months and can be renewed, to provide support and assistance to over 350,000 families residing in the Gaza Strip.
Leading the delegation from Oman was Her Excellency Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al Najjar, the Minister of Social Development. Over the course of three days, the ministers also organized a symposium on the implementation of the Arab Summit's strategy for the elderly, focusing on the challenges and capabilities involved. Additionally, they worked towards formulating a contemporary Arab strategy for the development of statistics.
The meeting emphasized the importance of member states sharing their national strategies and plans for poverty eradication policies with the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs. This exchange of experiences and knowledge among member states will contribute to the ratification of the statute of the Arab Center for Social Policy Studies and Poverty Eradication, in accordance with established systems.
Furthermore, preparations were made for the seventeenth session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This significant event is scheduled to take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from June 11 to 13, 2024. The meeting also focused on supporting the rights of individuals with disabilities during epidemics and crises, as well as preparing for the World Summit on Disability, which will be held from 2025 to 2028.
Apart from these discussions, various draft resolutions were reviewed and approved as part of the meeting's agenda.
