"Couldn't Believe How I Was Saved": Miracle Survivor Of AI-171 Plane Crash Narrates Horrific Tale Of Escaping Death

Ahmedabad: Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the Ahmedabad plane disaster who narrowly avoided death, recounted his terrible ordeal on Friday, shortly after speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In an interview with Doordarshan, he described the event, stating that his seat, 11A, was in a section of the aircraft that had landed on the building's ground floor, which it had smashed into. Vishwash, a British national of Indian descent, removed his seat belt and exited the plane, saying that his left hand was burned when the fire broke out.

Sharing the traumatic experience, he stated that all he saw were the bodies of passengers and crew members.

Vishwash stated that the side where he was sitting was not the hostel side but rather the ground floor of the hostel. I don't know about the others, but the area where I was seated landed on the ground floor, leaving some space. As soon as my door broke, I noticed there was some space, so I attempted to get out and succeeded. There was a concrete wall on the opposite side, and the aircraft had crashed completely on that side, so maybe that is why no one could get out from that side. There was only space where I was. I don't know how I made it. When the fire started, my left hand also caught fire. Then I was admitted to the hospital. People here treat me well. Everyone is quite pleasant here.

Vishwash's survival is nothing short of a miracle. For some time, he had assumed that he would also die, but somehow escaped death.

PM Modi inquired about the situation. It all happened right in front of my eyes. I couldn't believe how I was saved. For example, I believed I would die as well. But when I opened my eyes, I was still alive. I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out of there. Bodies of uncleaunties and air hostesses were there...

Vishwash described the incident, saying, "After takeoff, for 510 seconds, we felt like everything was stuck. " Green and white lights were activated on the aircraft. I believe the aircraft's speed was raised for takeoff, and it collided with the hostel's building. It all happened right in front of my eyes.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Modi visited the Air India flight crash site in Ahmedabad and assessed the ground situation, one day after the AI171 flight to London Gatwick went down shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad International Airport. PM Modi visited the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital to meet with individuals injured in the accident.
