Muscat: The University Library recently held a cultural event called 'Ithra' from April 22 to April 24, 2024. This event coincided with the celebration of World Book Day and Copyright Day on April 23. The main objective of this event was to enrich culture and knowledge while providing a platform for individuals to exchange experiences and foster intellectual cooperation among university members and the local community.
During the event, various authors from the university shared their personal experiences in writing and overcoming challenges, showcasing their literary works. Additionally, a book fair was organized to promote a culture of interest in books, encourage reading, and facilitate continuous learning.
One of the highlights of the event was an exhibition presented by Harith bin Saif Al-Kharousi, a researcher specializing in Omani heritage and history. The exhibition focused on writings related to metals, local materials, and rocks, delving into the history of writing since ancient times. To conclude the event, a workshop titled 'How to start your writings' was conducted by Sheikha Al-Fajriya, aiming to inspire participants to think innovatively and creatively in the realm of writing.
As a result of this event, several important recommendations were made, emphasizing the need to continue organizing similar events that promote writing and foster interest in knowledge and books. Furthermore, the event called for the adoption and publication of students' writings in university publications.
It is hoped that the university will allocate a dedicated space to showcase these valuable intellectual outputs in both local and international book fairs.
The event garnered significant attention from university affiliates and members of the external community, reflecting its resounding success and positive impact.
