Musqat:
Nine international companies have been prequalified for the competitive tender to participate in the Ibri III Solar PV project, a 500 MW project with an estimated cost of OMR 155 million, as announced by Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP), the sole buyer of power and water output in Oman.
The Ibri III Solar PV project marks the fourth large-scale solar scheme to be developed in Oman. PWP revealed in a press release that the prequalified companies include Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), ACWA Power, Al Riyadh National Trading and Korea Midland Power (‘KOMIPO’), Jinko Power, Sembcorp Utilities, TotalEnergies Renewables, EDF Renouvelables and Korean Western Power (‘KOWEPO’), International Power SA (Engie) and Sumitomo Corporation.
The procurement of this solar project aligns with the Omani government’s strategy to diversify energy sources in order to meet the increasing demand for electricity.
The implementation of this project will adhere to the successful Independent Power Producer (IPP) model already established in Oman, ensuring a fair and transparent competition process with the goal of selecting a highly qualified private sector developer capable of delivering cutting-edge technology solutions to support Oman's renewable energy and energy diversification objectives.
Following the request for qualification issued in January of this year, the response has been highly positive.
Nama Power and Water Procurement Company has received a total of 12 submissions for qualification from both local and international developers. Out of these, nine applicants have been either conditionally or unconditionally qualified. The developers come from various countries including the Sultanate of Oman, United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, China, South Korea, Singapore, France, and Japan.
In a recent press statement, Nama Power and Water Procurement announced the list of unconditionally prequalified and conditionally prequalified applicants after a thorough evaluation process.
The company is currently in the process of finalizing the Request for Proposals, which will be soon issued to the prequalified applicants mentioned above, pending the necessary approvals.
Ibri III Solar IPP is the fourth solar IPP project tendered by Nama Power and Water Procurement Company, following the successful implementation of Ibri II Solar IPP (operational since summer 2021) and the ongoing projects of Manah I Solar IPP and Manah II Solar IPP.
Nama Power and Water Procurement Company is collaborating with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Authority for Public Services Regulation to work towards achieving the renewable energy targets outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
