8 Rescued Indians Off Oman Coast Reach Ashore; 1 Indian National's Body Recovered

New Delhi: The Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh disclosed on Thursday that a total of eight Indian nationals, who were evacuated from the sunken oil tanker MV Prestige Falcon, have successfully reached the shores and are presently under medical and care.

It is with profound sorrow that the body of an Indian seafarer has been recovered. The Indian government is diligently overseeing the situation, providing comprehensive support to the affected families.

The Indian Navy's warship INS Teg has been at the forefront of a critical search and rescue operation offshore Oman since the capsize of the MV Prestige Falcon on July 15. To date, the rescue mission has achieved a significant success, recovering nine crew members, including eight Indians and one citizen of Sri Lanka, from the capsized vessel. The operation is in progress as the Navy and Omani authorities collaborate to locate the remaining missing members of the crew.

Following the incident, the Indian Navy immediately initiated a search and rescue operation. Advanced equipment and personnel were deployed to assist the crew members stranded in the perilous waters.

The Indian Navy has reported, "8 crew members from MV Prestige Falcon (8 Indians and 1 Sri Lankan) have been rescued alive during the search and rescue efforts. The search for the remaining crew members will be prolonged in the specified area."

The Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft P8I is also actively engaged in the search for any additional survivors.

Kirti Vardhan Singh conveyed his relief regarding the successful evacuation of the eight Indian nationals and extended his condolences to the family of the deceased crew member. He expressed gratitude towards the authorities from both India and Oman for their concerted efforts in the rescue mission.

"Consulted with our Ambassador in Oman, Amit Narang, for an update on the MV Prestige Falcon incident. Assurance that 8 Indians rescued by INS Teg have arrived safely. Request for all assistance from authorities in India and Oman is being ensured. My deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased." Singh stated in his official statement.

The Indian Embassy in Oman has been actively engaged in facilitating the coordination of search and rescue operations in cooperation with the Omani authorities.
