27 Dams In Oman Retain Rainwater To Prevent Floods

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has reported that a total of over 134 million cubic meters of rainwater has been retained by 27 dams in various wilayats of Oman to mitigate the risk of floods. 

Engineer Nasser bin Mohammed Al Battashi, the Director General of the General Directorate of Water Resources Assessment at the Ministry, highlighted the full capacity of the Wadi Dayqa Dam in the Wilayat of Quriyat, which can hold 100 million cubic meters of water. 

Additionally, the Al Salif Dam in Ibri and the Surur Dam in the Wilayat of Dhank, with capacities of one million and 1.29 million cubic meters respectively, have also reached their maximum capacity.

The Sudairiyin Dam in the Wilayat of Yanqul, with a capacity of 0.24 million cubic meters, has also been filled. In the Wilayat of Mahdha in Al Buraimi Governorate, various dams including Wadi Haywan, Masah, Abu Qala, Mahdha, and Al-Jawif have been filled with different amounts of water. 

In North Al-Sharqiyah Governorate, the dams in the Wilayat of Al-Qabil, such as the Wadi Nam Dam, Al-Aqeedah Dam, and Al-Rassa Dam, have also reached their capacity. Similarly, the Qafifa Dam in the Wilayat of Ibra has been filled with water.

In the Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate, the Wadi Ghul Dam in the Wilayat of Al-Hamra recorded 0.13 million cubic metres, while the Al-Awabi Dam in the South Al-Batinah Governorate's Wilayat of Al-Awabi recorded 0.045 million cubic metres. Moving to the North Al Batinah Governorate, the Wadi Al Hilti and Al Salahi dams in the Wilayat of Sohar were filled with 0.55 million cubic metres of water, the Al Jizzi Dam with 5.4 million cubic metres, and the Aahen Dam in the Wilayat of Saham with 6.8 million cubic metres.

On the other hand, the Al-Hawasna Dam in the Wilayat Al-Khaboura recorded a filling rate of 1.68 million cubic metres. 

In the Musandam Governorate, the Al Sarooj Dam in the Wilayat of Madha recorded 0.922 million cubic metres, while the Sahana Dam in the same wilayat recorded 0.035 million cubic metres. Lastly, the Protection Dam in the Wilayat of Sur in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate recorded a water volume of 8.56 million cubic metres, with one of the dam's gates being opened.
