Muscat: The Role of Yacht Tourism in Enhancing Marine Tourism in the Sultanate of Oman

Yacht tourism plays a pivotal role in the enhancement of marine tourism within the Sultanate of Oman. This aspect is crucial for the development of the tourism sector, as it significantly attracts visitors who are in search of unique experiences to explore the rich marine biodiversity along Oman's coastlines. This includes notable destinations such as the Dimaniyat Islands, Bandar Al-Khiran area, and various other tourist sites.

Captain Majid bin Saif Al Barhi, the Director General of Marine Affairs at the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, has highlighted that yacht tourism stands out as a major attraction within marine tourism. It offers visitors the opportunity to explore Oman's coastal regions, observe wildlife, geological formations, and marine life in its various forms.

Al Barhi further noted that the Muscat Governorate is experiencing a notable surge in this type of tourism. The number of tourist yachts in the governorate has climbed to approximately 500, reflecting the sector's growth. This increase can be attributed to the governorate's pristine beaches and the presence of modern marinas.

Currently, there are six marinas, with plans to establish more modern facilities. The General Directorate of Marine Affairs is diligently monitoring these activities to ensure the safety of all users, particularly during peak seasons.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology is committed to further developing the sector through the adoption of clean energy technologies for tourist yachts and the enhancement of beach quality to meet tourist expectations. This includes ongoing research on clean energy solutions for yachts, such as solar panels, among other initiatives.

Mohammed bin Ahmed, the owner of a tourist yacht, has observed a recent uptick in tourist numbers, attributing this to the Sultanate of Oman's scenic beauty and the government's focus on developing marine infrastructure that supports yacht tourism.

"The Sultanate of Oman's most favored destinations for yacht tourism include Bandar Al Khairan, Al Seef, Yiti coasts, and the Daymaniyat Islands Reserve. These excursions are often accompanied by a variety of events and activities, including diving, which offers a unique opportunity to observe marine wildlife, such as dolphins, alongside rowing boat trips and fishing expeditions. Our services also feature professional crews, exclusive meals, and a range of recreational activities, ensuring a luxurious experience for our guests," he elaborated.

It is important to mention that the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology is dedicated to the sector's advancement through the improvement of infrastructure, the provision of innovative services, and the implementation of sustainable environmental practices. These efforts are aimed at promoting ecotourism and the preservation of natural resources.
