Kazan, Russia - On the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping engaged in a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This encounter, which occurred during Putin's tenure as the summit's host, brought together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, alongside six newly admitted members, to deliberate on critical global matters.
According to reports from China's Global Times, President Xi Jinping articulated that China and Russia have discovered an effective approach for neighboring major nations to coexist peacefully, characterized by non-alliance, non-confrontation, and a focus on not targeting any third parties. In his discussion with President Putin, President Xi highlighted the significant progress and pioneering achievements in the relations between China and Russia.
The Russian media reported President Putin's perspective on the bilateral relations, describing them as a model for global relations. He also extended his congratulations to the Chinese people on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China.
Prior to this meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was also present at the BRICS Summit, conducted a bilateral meeting with President Putin on Tuesday, during which they exchanged warm greetings with a hug.
During their discussion, President Putin emphasized the depth of their personal relationship, stating, "We have such a relationship that I felt you do not need any translation."
He expressed his gratitude towards President Putin for his hospitality in Kazan, noting that they would participate in the opening ceremony of the BRICS Summit followed by a dinner. He also mentioned the importance of making significant decisions during the summit.
In response, Prime Minister Modi underscored the strong friendship between the two nations, highlighting his recent visits to Russia in the last three months as evidence of their close coordination and deep bond. He also mentioned the strengthening of cooperation during the Annual Summit in Moscow in July, which has further solidified their partnership.
He expressed his anticipation for his participation in the BRICS Summit scheduled for October 22-23, which will be hosted by Russia.
The summit, themed "Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security," is anticipated to serve as a crucial platform for leaders to deliberate on key global issues, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
