San Francisco: A significant number of global users of X, previously known as Twitter, encountered difficulties while using the social network owned by Elon Musk on Thursday.

According to Downdetector, a monitoring site, reports of the platform's issues started to increase just before 0600 GMT.

"The site has received user reports indicating problems at X (Twitter)," stated Downdetector.

During the outage, timelines on the platform were cleared, and no new posts were visible, although the twitter.com website remained accessible.

Unable to post on X, social media users turned to alternative platforms such as Facebook, Threads, and Reddit to share updates about the outage.

Fortunately, the platform was able to restore its services for users in multiple countries shortly after 0640 GMT.

At its peak, Downdetector recorded approximately 67,000 US users reporting problems during the outage.

X Pro, formerly known as TweetDeck, was also impacted by the outage. X has not provided any immediate comment regarding the incident, and the cause of the outage remains unknown.

Currently, X is facing various challenges, such as an EU probe investigating disinformation and hate, criticism for its response to recent riots in Dublin, and a significant loss of prominent advertisers.

According to internal documents obtained by The Verge, Musk's company is now valued at less than half of the $44 billion he initially paid for it in October 2022.

In addition to this recent outage, Downdetector reported a major outage on X in February, affecting numerous users. Complaints from users included the inability to post messages, being notified of exceeding daily post limits, and difficulties in sending direct messages.
