ReadyMix Muscat, a member of the Holcim group, has taken a significant step towards promoting diversity and inclusivity with the introduction of its groundbreaking initiative, 'Women on Wheels' in Oman.
Huda Salim Al-Mahrouqi, one of the pioneering Omani heavy-duty truck drivers to join ReadyMix Muscat through the 'Women on Wheels' program, expressed her sincere appreciation for the training and job opportunity provided. Her success serves as a testament to the positive impact of the initiative on Omani women pursuing non-traditional career paths. Huda's journey mirrors the broader vision of ReadyMix Muscat to empower women and foster a more inclusive workforce.
This initiative aims to create new avenues for Omani women in various industries, particularly in fields traditionally dominated by men. A key focus of the program is to offer Omani women unique work experiences, opening doors to professions that were previously seen as out of reach.
Daniel Mendible, the general manager of ReadyMix Muscat, Lafarge Holcim, emphasized the importance of the 'Women on Wheels' initiative in Oman. He highlighted the increasing female representation within the organization, reaffirming the company's commitment to a competency-based approach in promoting diversity.
With great pride, he announced the launch of 'Women on Wheels' in Oman, an initiative designed to empower and support women in all career paths. ReadyMix Muscat is proud to be the first Gulf country to implement such a program, showcasing its dedication to innovative solutions.
Shameem Mansoor Al-Mahrizi, a Quality Control Engineer at ReadyMix Muscat, Lafarge Holcim, mentioned that she had come up with the idea of Women on Wheels when she joined the company as an intern in August 2023. However, when she presented the idea to her General Manager, she discovered that Holcim had already implemented this initiative in other countries such as Kenya, Nigeria, and Jordan.
Despite this, Shameem Al-Mahrizi had the privilege of leading and successfully launching this program in the Sultanate of Oman. She faced challenges in overcoming the stereotypes surrounding women in the Arab society's workforce, but she was able to overcome them. She expressed her gratitude to Lafarge Holcim, Ready Mix Muscat, and her team for providing her with the opportunity to execute and successfully implement this program.
