New Delhi: Dwayne Bravo, a versatile all-rounder from the West Indies, has announced his retirement from cricket following the conclusion of his final season in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) due to an injury.
Bravo, who is set to reach the age of 41 in the coming month, stands as the leading wicket-taker in the T20 format. His international cricket career spanned from 2021 to 2021, during which he made the decision to conclude his tenure in the Indian Premier League (IPL) the previous year. In the intervening period, Bravo redirected his efforts towards coaching, representing the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Afghanistan national team.
"Today marks the day I bid farewell to the game that has enriched my life in countless ways. From the moment I picked up a cricket bat at the age of five, I knew this was my calling. This sport was destined for me, and I devoted my life to it. In return, it has provided me with the life I've always dreamed of for myself and my family. I am deeply grateful for this," Bravo expressed in a heartfelt post on Instagram.
Bravo was scheduled to retire from the CPL following the conclusion of the current campaign. Throughout his tenure, he has been recognized as one of the most decorated players in the tournament, amassing five titles, including three with the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR).
In his concluding season, Bravo sustained an injury while attempting to catch a ball thrown by St Lucia Kings captain, Faf du Plessis, in the seventh over. He immediately left the field and did not bowl in his final match for the TKR. He then took the number 11 position for the team's unsuccessful attempt to chase a target of 219.
During his CPL career, Bravo played in 107 matches, scoring 1,155 runs at an average of 20.62 and a strike rate of 129.33. With the ball, he achieved 129 wickets at an average of 23.02.
In summary, Bravo's illustrious career has left an indelible mark on the T20 format globally, amassing 631 wickets in 582 appearances.

It is imperative that I do not place myself in a position where I could potentially disappoint any of these groups.
Therefore, with a profound sense of gratitude, I am officially retiring from the sport. Today marks the end of an era, as the Champion bids farewell to the cricket world.
Following my conclusion from the CPL, Bravo had plans to participate in the UAE's International League Twenty20 (ILT20) tournament, having been retained by MI Emirates. However, I have made the difficult decision to step away from the tournament and announce my retirement.
In a heartfelt message to my fans, Bravo expressed his deep gratitude for their unwavering support and love throughout his illustrious career. He also acknowledged that he has no regrets regarding his career choices or his decision to retire.
