Virat Kohli Becomes First Indian To Reach 13,000-run Mark In T20s

Mumbai: On Monday, Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batsman, achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring 13,000 runs in T20 cricket, making him the fifth player globally and the first Indian to reach this landmark.

Kohli accomplished this feat during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium.

In the game, Kohli displayed his aggressive batting style, effectively handling both spin and pace. He scored 67 runs off just 42 balls, hitting eight fours and two sixes, with a strike rate of 159.52.

So far in IPL 2025, Kohli has accumulated 164 runs across four matches, averaging 54.66 with a strike rate exceeding 143, including two half-centuries and a top score of 67. He currently ranks as the sixth-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

Over the course of 403 T20 matches, Kohli has amassed 13,050 runs at an average of 41.56, including nine centuries and 99 fifties, with his highest score being 122*. The all-time leading run-scorer in T20s is Chris Gayle, who has 14,562 runs at an average of 36.22, a strike rate above 144, 22 centuries, and 88 fifties, with a best score of 175*.

In the match, MI won the toss and chose to field first. Despite an early dismissal of Phil Salt, Kohli (67 off 42 balls, with eight fours and two sixes) and Devdutt Padikkal (37 off 22 balls, with two fours and three sixes) formed a formidable 91-run partnership that made MI regret their decision. Following their dismissals, captain Rajat Patidar (64 off 32 balls, with five fours and four sixes) and Jitesh Sharma (40* off 19 balls, with two fours and four sixes) ensured the run rate remained high, leading RCB to a total of 221/5.

For MI, Hardik Pandya (2/45) and Trent Boult (2/57) each took two wickets but conceded runs, while Vignesh Puthur also claimed a wicket. Jasprit Bumrah returned with figures of 0/29 in four overs.

RCB now aims to defend a target of 222 runs to secure their third victory in
