Verbally Narrated History Is Also A Vital Part Of Omani Cultural Heritage

Muscat: The intangible cultural heritage, which includes verbal tales passed down through generations, is an important component of Oman's civilization.

Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Rahbi, Head of the Verbally Narrated History Section at the Literary Forum within the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, stated that the Sultanate of Oman has a rich cultural heritage, with several components included in UNESCO-related lists.

Oman's cultural diversity is unified by its geography and environment.

He claimed that the Sultanate of Oman's Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth is collecting, archiving, and distributing spoken history, which is a component of Oman's intangible cultural heritage.

This orally narrated history is reflected in Omani culture and methods of oral expression.

He stated that the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth's goals and vision regard culture as a fundamental component of society that contributes to the enhancement of modern human culture. He stated that the Ministry has been working on a project since 2006 to preserve Oman's verbally narrated history.

The Ministry has been documenting Omani traditional arts for a long period of time, and it has released two books on Omani traditional musical instruments and the Omani traditional arts, both of which are folk art.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth has also published a book on the Nana art's narrative history, written by poet and researcher Ali bin Said Al Ma'ashani. The book chronicles the history and origins of Nana art, a Dhofar folk art, as well as the names of old and contemporary Nana art poets.
