Muscat: The Academic Board of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) convened today for its inaugural meeting of the academic year 2024/2025. The session was led by Dr. Mahad bin Said Ba’Owain, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the UTAS Board.
During the meeting, the Board reviewed a proposal focused on contemporary policies designed to protect sensitive data and assets, as well as to establish guidelines and procedures that ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information. This initiative underscores UTAS's dedication to adopting best practices in information security and bolstering cybersecurity measures.
Additionally, the Board approved a risk management policy aimed at sustaining institutional performance, enhancing the university's capacity to address potential challenges, and increasing awareness among university members regarding security protocols.
The formation of an Audit and Review Committee was also sanctioned, which will supervise the Internal Audit Department's activities with the primary goal of improving administrative governance and fostering greater transparency in financial, administrative, and academic processes.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed the admission policies for the children of non-Omani university employees, establishing specific criteria to ensure equitable educational opportunities and streamline related procedures, including the issuance of travel tickets and other measures.
In light of the resolutions made during the meeting on 26 May 2024, the Board praised the initiatives taken to establish procedures for the Master’s programmes at UTAS and contemplated the possibility of applying these measures in the ongoing academic year (2024-2025).
A total of 6,292 students, both male and female, graduated from UTAS in the current academic year.
