Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports, and Youth, highlighted the significance of fostering dialogue between the government and citizens in all decision-making processes during the third dialogue session of the "Together We Progress" forum.
His Highness discussed the partnership with the Ministry of Education aimed at nurturing young talent, emphasizing the ministry's commitment to identifying skills in both sports and culture. He remarked, “Last year's military discipline program engaged around 700 students, providing them with a valuable experience that develops their capabilities and prepares them for future challenges.”
He also pointed out that the current emphasis is on the development of a sports city, with the football stadium being a key feature that will allow Oman to host regional matches.
H.E. the Minister of Labor indicated that government sector employment is determined by actual needs, particularly in the health and education sectors, which together create approximately 6,000 job opportunities each year, with a similar number available in the military sector.
H.E. the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor for Human Resources Development noted that graduates of vocational education are highly regarded for employment in various government and private sectors. There are over 8,000 students enrolled in eight colleges, and efforts are underway to assess the training system in Oman across both government and private sectors, as well as in vocational training.
The Undersecretary highlighted that the economic activity in Oman has led to new investments, which will take time to manifest in employment opportunities.
During the second dialogue session on the retirement system at the "Together We Progress" forum, H.E. the Minister of Energy and Minerals and Chairman of the Social Protection Fund Board stated that the total number of individuals benefiting from the fund, including the elderly, children, individuals with disabilities, widows, orphans, and those with low family income, has surpassed 1,472,000 as of February.
He underscored that initiatives to enhance the social protection system are ongoing, with community feedback and suggestions being actively considered for improvements.
The CEO of the Social Protection Fund noted that the Social Protection Law is primarily aimed at supporting families through various benefits. He also mentioned that the number of Omanis covered by the Social Protection Fund has reached approximately 590,000 across all social insurance programs.
