Think Before You Share On Social Media

During the holy month of Ramadhan, being considerate is a crucial attribute that can be demonstrated through actions, words, and intentions. However, there is a specific behavior that we may be engaging in, knowingly or unknowingly, that requires reflection.

Life Coach Hatim Harith al Abdissalaam, who is also a member of the Islamic Information Centre, highlights the importance of being mindful of the images we share on social media. Even seemingly innocent posts can impact others, potentially causing distress to those facing challenges.

Al Abdissalaam emphasizes the need to shift away from a self-centered mindset and consider the feelings of others. He points out that recent social media posts during Ramadhan, such as images from Gaza showing individuals struggling to find food for iftar, serve as a reminder of the importance of empathy and consideration towards others.

He emphasized that even though we may not be able to provide extensive assistance, we should still make an effort to contribute in any way we can. It is important for us to minimize the display of our meals and gatherings through pictures and videos, so as to be sensitive to the emotions of our fellow brothers and sisters in Gaza who are enduring a challenging period.

"Every time we capture a photo of our delightful meal, we should remember that someone else in the world is lacking the same privilege. Moreover, this visual representation may evoke feelings of envy or sadness in their hearts. Therefore, we should refrain from giving others a reason to covet what we possess," he emphasized.

Hatim also highlights that one way to express gratitude and appreciation to Allah for the blessings we have received is by preserving them and consuming only what is necessary.

"Let us avoid extravagance and the wasteful act of filling our tables with various types of food, only to discard them later," he urges.
