Sydney: The Australian bowling unit delivered an impressive display during the second session of Day 01 at the Sydney Test, applying significant pressure on the Indian batting order on Friday.
At the tea break, India found themselves at 107/4, with Rishabh Pant (32*) and Ravindra Jadeja (11*) remaining not out at the crease.
India began the second session at 57/3, with Virat Kohli (12*) still at the crease, attempting to forge a partnership with Rishabh Pant, who came in to replace Gill after lunch.
While the Australians maintained a disciplined bowling strategy, the Indian batsmen appeared unsettled at the wicket.
A key highlight of the second session was Pant's aggressive batting style, which persisted throughout the Sydney Test. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter endured three painful blows from the Australian pacers during this period. The Australian bowlers showed no leniency, consistently delivering bouncers.
India reached the 100-run milestone in the 48th over, largely thanks to the 35-run partnership between Jadeja and Pant, who faced 111 balls together.
In the second session, India managed to score 50 runs, while the Australian bowlers claimed just one wicket.
In the 32nd over, Scott Boland dismissed Virat Kohli for 17 runs. Kohli's performance will be a focal point of discussion following the conclusion of this prestigious series, as he was dismissed in a similar fashion after edging an outside-off delivery.
Earlier in the day, India won the toss and opted to bat first against Australia in Sydney, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul opening for the visitors.
Unfortunately, the Indian openers were unable to establish a strong partnership.
In the fifth over, prominent Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc made the initial breakthrough by dismissing KL Rahul for a mere four runs.
Shortly thereafter, Yashasvi Jaiswal fell to Scott Boland, who claimed his wicket for 10 runs in the eighth over.
Just moments before the conclusion of the first session, Nathan Lyon secured an important wicket by getting rid of Shubman Gill, who scored 20 runs.
Current score: India 107/4 (Rishabh Pant 32*, Ravindra Jadeja 11*; Scott Boland 2/15) vs Australia.
