Sultanate Of Oman Accords Special Attention To Equestrian Sports

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman places significant emphasis on equestrian sports, consistently supporting participants in horse racing events organized by the Royal Horse Racing Club and the Oman Equestrian Federation, as well as jockeys from the Royal Cavalry who compete in various international arenas.

Royal Horse Racing Festivals are a vital cultural heritage for Oman. Initially held at the Madinat Al Adiyat racing track, these events began solely as horse races but have since evolved to encompass a broader range of equestrian disciplines and skills showcased throughout the competitions.

These festivals have played a crucial role in enhancing horse racing events, with winners receiving esteemed awards, including the prestigious His Majesty the Sultan's Cup.

Additionally, the festivals have elevated the standards of both male and female riders.

They have inspired Omani citizens, horse owners, trainers, and jockeys to engage in competitive racing, encouraging horse owners to choose pure Arabian horses for participation and fostering a growing interest in horse breeding within the Sultanate.

Royal Horse Racing Festivals are showcased through cutting-edge technology, merging traditional elements with contemporary realities, all guided by the enlightened vision of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, who has shown considerable dedication to equestrian sports and the welfare of horses, promoting the growth of the sport to meet international standards.

Sayyid Munthir Saif Al Busaidi, Chairman of the Oman Equestrian Federation, stated that the presence of His Majesty the Sultan at the Royal Race on Tuesday will serve as a significant source of motivation for all participants in the equestrian sport within the Sultanate of Oman. He emphasized that horse racing receives exceptional support from His Majesty, who is dedicated to preserving this historic Arab tradition, which provides a livelihood for many in Oman, particularly the youth, and encourages participation in both local and international competitions.

In an interview with Oman News Agency (ONA), he mentioned that the Federation is actively working to enhance horse racing in Oman in collaboration with various stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. He noted that the Federation prioritizes the public interest, particularly the needs of those involved in equestrian sports.

He highlighted that horse racing has reached impressive levels in terms of race timings and horse ratings, which has inspired competitors to participate in international races where they have consistently achieved notable placements.

Sayyid Munthir emphasized that the Oman Equestrian Federation regularly considers the feedback and suggestions of horse owners, trainers, and jockeys during pre-season meetings to identify the necessary elements for successful events, promote public engagement, and enhance the overall development of horse racing while fostering a racing culture among all participants.

He remarked that the race tracks in the Sultanate of Oman meet international standards, including the Al Rahba race track, which is maintained by specialized companies. He also noted that horse racing events in Oman consistently receive high praise.
