Muscat: A delegation from Tallinn University in Estonia, headed by Rector Prof. Tõnu Viik, commenced a two-day visit to Sultan Qaboos University on Sunday.
The purpose of this visit is to strengthen academic and cultural ties between the two institutions, particularly in the areas of humanities, educational technology, and cross-cultural interactions.
The delegation was received by His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, the Vice Chancellor, along with Her Highness Sayyida Dr. Muna bint Fahd Al Said, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Cooperation, and several faculty members.
During their discussions, both parties explored potential avenues for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
In his address, His Highness outlined the University’s mission and vision, emphasizing their alignment with the strategic objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
He stressed the significance of maintaining national identity while being responsive to advancements in various sectors, especially in technology and education.
Prof. Tõnu Viik presented an overview of Tallinn University’s academic offerings and provided insights into Estonian culture.
He underscored the university’s commitment to balancing research conducted in English with the promotion of the Estonian language and cultural heritage.
He also highlighted the varied structure of Tallinn University, which encompasses schools dedicated to the humanities, digital technologies, educational sciences, natural sciences, and health, while also emphasizing the institution's increasing focus on Arabic studies.
