Sohar Hospital's Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory, in collaboration with the National Centre for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery, has successfully conducted 42 pacemaker implants since its establishment in February 2023.
Dr. Najeeb bin Zahran Al Rawahi, the Director of the National Centre for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Ministry of Health's decentralization plan, aiming to extend healthcare services and essential care to patients residing outside Muscat Governorate. The objective is to reduce the waiting time for patients and ensure accessibility to quality healthcare.
Since 2009, the partnership between the National Centre and Sohar Hospital has flourished. This collaboration includes a dedicated clinic at Sohar Hospital for patients with heart blockages, as well as post-implantation follow-up care for pacemaker recipients. The clinic is overseen by a Senior Consultant Electrocardiologist from the National Centre, who examines over 600 patients annually.
The National Centre for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery at Sohar Hospital offers a comprehensive range of services, including the diagnosis and treatment of heart disorders, medication management, pacemaker implants, and defibrillator procedures.
Notably, the cardiac catheterisation laboratory at Sohar Hospital boasts two state-of-the-art operation rooms equipped with the latest medical technologies for performing catheterisation procedures on the heart, arteries, and cerebral vessels. Additionally, a dedicated post-cardiac catheterisation ward with 22 beds and a specialized cardiac care unit with 12 beds have been established to ensure optimal patient care.
