Muscat: On Wednesday, Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, the Chairman of the Shura Council, welcomed the Heads of Mission from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the Council's headquarters.
During the meeting, the focus was on Oman’s commitment to enhancing its relationships with ASEAN nations and its sincere intention to establish cooperative ties with the Association, which has a rich maritime and commercial history with Oman.
The discussions also underscored the significance of developing effective partnerships that promote economic, cultural, and developmental integration between both parties, especially through collaborative agreements in free trade and strategic cooperation.
Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadhabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, was also present at the meeting.
It is important to note that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), founded on 8 August 1967, is a regional body aimed at fostering economic, political, security, social, and cultural collaboration among Southeast Asian nations.
Its objectives include promoting economic growth, creating a free trade zone, ensuring regional peace and stability, preventing conflicts, and enhancing cooperation in cultural, educational, and social areas.
Al Maawali meets UAE envoy
Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council, held a meeting at the Council headquarters with His Excellency Mohammed Maktoum Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Sultanate of Oman.
The meeting was also attended by Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadhabi, the Secretary-General of the Shura Council.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Chairman extended a warm welcome to the Ambassador and wished him success in his new role, emphasizing the strong fraternal bonds between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
The discussion focused on ways to enhance legislative cooperation between the representative bodies of the two countries, as well as exchanging friendly perspectives on areas of mutual cooperation and their future development.
In response, the UAE Ambassador conveyed his enthusiasm for strengthening the current bilateral relations and broadening joint cooperation across all sectors for the benefit of both brotherly nations.
