"We Rely On India's Authoritative Voice In Peace Efforts...": Ukraine FM Andrii Sybiha

New Delhi: On Thursday, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar engaged in a dialogue with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, emphasizing India's commitment to a swift resolution of the conflict. The discussion also covered the cooperation between the two nations.

Ukraine's FM Sybiha expressed their reliance on India's "authoritative voice" and proactive support in broader international peace initiatives.

In a post on X, EAM stated, "I spoke with FM @andrii_sybiha of Ukraine this evening. We discussed our bilateral cooperation as well as the situation regarding the Ukraine conflict. India advocates for a prompt conclusion to this conflict and the establishment of lasting peace."

Furthermore, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha noted that the discussions included enhancing the Ukraine-India partnership and advancing the implementation of agreements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"I updated my Indian counterpart on the current battlefield conditions and Ukraine's pursuit of a just peace. We depend on India's authoritative voice and active involvement in advocating for a complete halt to hostilities and broader international peace efforts. We agreed to convene during the UNGA high-level week in New York to further develop our bilateral relations, including in political dialogue, upcoming high-level contacts, economic collaboration, technology, and other sectors," Sybiha shared on X.

These discussions follow shortly after PM Modi's conversation with Russian President Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit and ahead of his meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy.

During the meeting with President Putin, the leaders exchanged perspectives on regional and global issues, including the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.

PM Modi shared on X, "I had a productive meeting with President Putin during the SCO Summit in Tianjin. We explored avenues to enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors, such as trade, fertilizers, space, security, and culture. We also shared perspectives on regional and global issues, including the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict. Our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership continues to be a crucial foundation for regional and global stability."

On August 30, PM Modi engaged in a phone call with President Zelenskyy prior to the SCO summit, where they addressed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and reaffirmed India's unwavering support for initiatives aimed at restoring peace and stability.

Earlier on Wednesday, EAM Jaishankar also discussed the Ukraine conflict and West Asia with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul in the national capital.
