Muscat: Sponsored by Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, the Governor of Muscat, the inaugural Health Forum 2025 was arranged by the Health Committee in Muttrah.
The event saw participation from Dr. Saeed bin Harib Al Lamki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, along with several officials and relevant stakeholders.
During the forum, various strategies were examined that aim to lessen the use of narcotics and psychotropic substances. Additionally, the outcomes of the initial phase of the national survey on non-communicable diseases conducted by the Directorate of Health Services in Muscat Governorate were presented. This phase concluded with 88% of households in Muscat being monitored and visited, and discussions were held regarding working documents on the National Competition aimed at Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, as well as the educational sector's role in addressing this challenge.
Dr. Hamad bin Said Al Mamari, Wali of Muttrah, expressed his gratitude for the efforts made by the Ministry of Health and health committees within Muscat Governorate.
He also reflected on Muttrah's involvement in the third edition of the National Competition to Combat Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, highlighting the campaign ‘Together We Unite’, which secured second place in Oman.
Dr. Yousuf bin Mohammed Al Farsi, Director General of Health Services in Muscat Governorate, asserted that this forum represents a significant national event that emphasizes the importance of collaboration and integration to enhance both individual and community health.
He remarked that the national initiative to mitigate drug use exemplifies a united approach reflecting national solidarity in tackling one of the most critical threats facing our children’s present and future.
The collaboration between public and private sectors is vital to safeguarding our youth. This forum marked the beginning of the second phase of the National Noncommunicable Diseases Survey, aimed at citizens and residents aged 15 and up in the Sultanate of Oman.
The survey will identify the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases, establish a thorough database, and facilitate effective health planning.
