Scotland's Charlie Cassell Scripts History, Picks Best Figures On ODI Debut

Dundee: Scotland's pace bowler Charlie Cassell has shattered the record for the most wickets taken on debut in an Over-Series match during their ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 encounter against Oman on Monday.

Cassell left Oman's field completely confounded with his precision and length of delivery throughout the match, registering bowling figures of 7 for 21 in his 5.4-over spell at Forthill Cricket Ground.

In the annals of ODI debuts, the previous record stood with South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada of South Africa, who had left Bangladesh's batsmen speechless with his figures of 6 for 16 in his debut match in July 2015.

In an impressive display of resilience, Cassell was seamlessly integrated into the Scotland team as a replacement for fast bowler Chris Sole, who was unable to participate due to personal reasons.

During his stint, he mastered the Oman batsmen, forcing the visiting team to retire on 91 runs in just 21 overs.

"It's been a remarkable journey coming back from a significant setback. The injury that kept me sidelined for over a year has only fueled my determination to return stronger," said Scotland captain Richie Berrington during the presentation of Cassell's cap prior to the match against Oman, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

Cassell's debut was marked by two consecutive wickets within his first two overs, with notable achievements including dismissing Zeeshan Maqsood on the first ball and trapping Ayan Khan for a stumping. Although he missed the chance for a hat-trick, Cassell's impressive performance continued with the dismissal of Khalid Kail, leading to the aforementioned moment of record-breaking figures in ODI debut matches.

The record for best bowling figures on an ODI debut was further broken by Cassell following the dismissal of Bilal Khan, cementing his place in cricket history.
