Muscat: HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, the Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, graciously hosted Arsenio Domínguez, the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), along with his delegation.
HH Sayyid Fahd expressed the Sultanate of Oman's profound appreciation for the critical role played by the IMO in enhancing maritime navigation and ensuring the safety of passengers and maritime journeys across international seas and oceans.
He highlighted the Sultanate's unwavering commitment to collaboration with the IMO, aiming to further the development of maritime transport, secure maritime routes, and address associated challenges.
In response, the Secretary General of the IMO emphasized the Sultanate of Oman's esteemed position as a regional maritime hub, significantly contributing to the security and safety of international maritime routes in the region. He also stressed the significance of this visit in facilitating discussions with officials to endorse Oman's candidacy for Category (C) membership in the executive council of the IMO.
The meeting was also attended by Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
