Muscat: HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, the Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, welcomed Arsenio Domínguez, the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), along with his team.
HH Sayyid Fahd expressed the Sultanate of Oman's appreciation for the critical role played by the IMO in improving maritime navigation and ensuring the safety of passengers and maritime journeys across the world's seas and oceans.
HH Sayyid Fahd highlighted Oman's ongoing commitment to working with the IMO to progress maritime transportation, secure maritime pathways, and address associated challenges.
During the discussion, the IMO Secretary General emphasized Oman's esteemed position as a key regional maritime hub that plays a significant role in safeguarding international maritime routes in the area. He also stressed the significance of this visit in engaging with officials to back Oman's candidacy for Category (C) membership in the IMO's executive council.
The gathering was also attended by Eng Said Hamoud al Maawali, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Eng Khamis Mohammed al Shamakhi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
