Sayyid Badr Receives British Foreign Secretary

Muscat: On Wednesday, Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, had a meeting with Lord David Cameron, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom (UK).

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed various regional developments, with a particular focus on the Palestinian issue. They emphasized the importance of establishing a ceasefire and achieving a permanent humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip to address the dire humanitarian situation.

Both ministers acknowledged the urgent need for a ceasefire to facilitate the entry of relief aid and the release of detainees. They also highlighted the necessity of taking concrete actions to implement the global consensus on the Two-State Solution, which calls for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international law.

Furthermore, the two sides agreed on the significance of containing conflicts to prevent their regional escalation.

The meeting also explored opportunities for enhancing joint cooperation projects across all sectors. Both sides expressed their desire to convene the next meeting of the Omani-British working group in Muscat at the earliest convenience.

In attendance were Sheikh Khalifa Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, Munthir Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Head of the Europe Department at the Foreign Ministry, Dr. Liane Saunders, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Sultanate of Oman, and officials from both delegations.
