Royal Oman Police To Mark Annual Day On Sunday

Muscat: January 5th marks a significant occasion for the Sultanate of Oman, as it is the day the Royal Oman Police (ROP) commemorates its annual celebration, known as ROP Day. This event highlights the achievements of the ROP and reinforces its commitment to furthering progress and development within the nation.

The Royal Oman Police has effectively managed various security incidents across the Sultanate through its commands and stations. Additionally, the ROP's special task units provide essential support to all ROP divisions.

ROP Service Centres located in different wilayats offer a range of services, including traffic management, passport issuance, and civil services for both citizens and residents.

On November 18, 2024, the ROP inaugurated a new station in Raysuit, along with the ROP Coast Guard Station and a security center at Salalah Port.

In a move that underscores its dedication to sustainable development, the ROP has also incorporated several electric vehicles into its security and traffic patrol fleet, promoting the use of clean energy.

Furthermore, the ROP plays a vital role in enhancing preparedness for potential risks associated with disasters and environmental or industrial incidents. This is facilitated through the National Emergency Management Centre, which aims to coordinate national responses and ensure rapid recovery by implementing integrated crisis management systems and an advanced online information management portal, while also raising public awareness about the importance of crisis preparedness.

ROP stands as a prominent government entity dedicated to advancing Oman’s digital landscape and e-government initiatives, offering a comprehensive suite of over 650 electronic services.

To align with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, ROP is actively implementing strategies that include launching new initiatives, enhancing workforce training, and optimizing resource utilization to advance its systems with cutting-edge technology. This approach aims to streamline processes for both citizens and residents.

In 2024, the Royal Oman Police introduced a digital identity service within the ROP application, facilitating the verification of individual identities.

Additionally, ROP rolled out the inaugural vehicle registration service through car dealerships, along with services for transferring vehicle licenses, addressing traffic violations via the digital identity service, and enabling fine payments through banking applications, the Thawani portfolio, and the Tasdeed Company platform, among other offerings.

ROP was honored with three local accolades at the Comex Awards for Excellence in Technology 2024, recognizing its commitment to enhancing user experience and advancing digital services. These awards included distinctions for the best electronic services and the best smartphone application.

Digital Transformation of Procedures

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has enhanced customs operations through the Bayan system, which facilitates the digital transformation of procedures, thereby improving trade exchange and security protocols. This system allows for customs clearance to occur before shipments arrive.

In 2024, the ROP initiated a training program aimed at citizens involved in management and operational roles at border posts. This initiative is part of a broader effort to create job opportunities for Omani youth and to nurture national talent.

The Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations has improved its operational efficiency by continuously modernizing its systems. This includes the acquisition of advanced equipment and software, as well as providing specialized training for its personnel.

Additionally, the Directorate General has enhanced its capabilities by implementing modern systems for database management and has intensified its efforts to combat human trafficking.

The ROP Coast Guard is tasked with safeguarding Oman’s territorial waters, conducting search and rescue operations, and addressing smuggling and illegal immigration. It also plays a crucial role in maintaining security at ports, harbors, and public areas along the coast, among other responsibilities.
