Royal Hospital Sets New Milestone In Treating Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome

Muscat: A specialized medical team at the Royal Hospital successfully conducted a complex surgical procedure to treat "median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS)" employing a surgical endoscope. This procedure marked a significant achievement in addressing a condition that is both rare and presents considerable challenges in both diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Mohammed Said Al Abri, a Consultant in Obesity and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at the Royal Hospital, reported to the Oman News Agency (ONA) that the patient was experiencing severe, recurrent abdominal pain that significantly impacted his daily life. The medical team conducted a series of examinations utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and CT scans, informed by the patient's medical history, which led to a precise diagnosis of MALS.

Dr. Mohammed Al Abri highlighted that the surgical procedure was executed with a surgical endoscope, which facilitated the preservation of the abdominal artery from the typical pressures and risks associated with traditional open surgery.

"Following the surgery, the medical team observed an immediate improvement in the patient's condition: The abdominal pain subsided, and the patient was able to consume food without experiencing nausea or pain," Dr. Mohammed Al Abri noted.
