Royal Hospital Doctors Treat Rare Medical Condition With Ease

A specialized medical team from The Royal Hospital’s Department of Pediatric Hematology in Muscat successfully utilized the Romiplostim drug to treat a patient with Down Syndrome and bone marrow failure.

Dr. Alyaa Al Mughairy, Consultant of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the Royal Hospital, led the team in this groundbreaking treatment.

According to Dr. Alyaa, the treatment not only increased the patient's blood platelet count but also boosted red and white blood cell production without any adverse effects. Romiplostim, a synthetic protein that stimulates platelet production, is commonly used to address bleeding in children with immune thrombocytopenia.

The success of this case has been published in a prestigious scientific journal focused on pediatric hematology and oncology, highlighting it as an innovative and effective treatment.

Dr. Alyaa emphasized that this achievement underscores the expertise and capabilities of the pediatric hematology team at The Royal Hospital, showcasing Oman's excellence in healthcare and dedication to providing top-notch medical services.
