ROP Launches 2 Booklets On Highway Code For Vehicles

In a significant effort to raise awareness about traffic safety, rules, and regulations, the Royal Oman Police, through the Directorate General of Traffic, proudly introduces the release of two booklets - the Oman Highway Code for Heavy Vehicles and Light Vehicles. These resources are available in both Arabic and English versions.

The launch of these handbooks took place at Oman Mall during GCC Traffic Week on 3 March 2024, with Engineer Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, officiating the event.

The Oman Highway Code serves as a comprehensive manual for traffic safety, aiming to provide readers in general, and drivers and road users in particular, with the necessary knowledge and skills for safe navigation on the roads. In a fast-paced world, emphasizing the importance of road safety is crucial.

These handbooks are being introduced at a critical time, addressing the challenges posed by increasingly congested roads and the distractions brought about by modern technology. Whether you are an experienced driver, a professional driver, a novice road user, or simply seeking to refresh your understanding of traffic regulations, these handbooks are meticulously designed to meet your needs.

The Oman Highway Code for Light Vehicles offers valuable information on obtaining driving licenses, essential safety practices, emergency procedures, road signs, and a detailed list of traffic violations along with their consequences.

This handbook is intended to benefit all drivers, providing guidance on the proper conduct on the road.

The Heavy Vehicle Handbook is designed specifically for professional drivers and fleet managers, offering valuable insights to navigate roadways with heightened awareness and expertise.

These handbooks, which can be downloaded for free, go beyond just providing information; they symbolize a collaborative effort to revolutionize our approach to road safety. Unveiled during Traffic Week 2024 at Mall of Oman, the PDF versions in both Arabic and English will be available for free download on the ROP website.

This initiative, carried out in the interest of the public, has been made possible thanks to the support of corporate entities that understand the importance of road safety.

In his remarks on the launch of these two handbooks, Brigadier General/Engineer Ali bin Sulayem Al-Falahi, Director General of Traffic, stated: “The introduction of the two handbooks on Oman Highway Code for Light and Heavy vehicles is a clear demonstration of Oman's commitment to raising awareness about road safety. These comprehensive guides are invaluable resources that help disseminate knowledge about safe driving practices, the regulations governing road safety, vehicle maintenance, road signs, and the crucial role of technology in ensuring our safety on the road. By providing this essential information, Oman is empowering its citizens to make informed choices and adopt the principles of road safety.”.

Engineer Fatima bint Abdullah Al-Riyamiya, Assistant Director of Traffic Engineering at Directorate General of Traffic, who serves as a technical advisor for the issuance of the two booklets, emphasized the significance of these publications. She stated that these booklets are a valuable addition to the continuous efforts of the Royal Oman Police in ensuring traffic safety and reducing accidents. The information provided in these books is beneficial for every driver in the Sultanate of Oman, and it is hoped that they will adhere to it for the safety of all road users.
