Dubai: The Pakistan Cricket Team has been fined 10 percent of their match fee after the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees determined they were two overs short of the required target on Tuesday.
According to the ICC, under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses minimum over-rate violations, teams are fined five percent of their match fee for each over they fail to complete within the designated time.
Mohammad Rizwan accepted the penalty and admitted guilt regarding the offense, which negated the necessity for a formal hearing.
The charge was brought forth by on-field umpires Chris Brown and Paul Reiffel, along with third umpire Michael Gough and fourth umpire Wayne Knights.
In the ODI series opener, New Zealand delivered a strong performance, securing a 73-run victory in Napier.
With a remarkable century from Mark Chapman, the hosts set a total of 344/9, while Nathan Smith's career-best bowling figures helped dismiss Pakistan for 271.
The second ODI is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, in Hamilton.
