Muscat: Oman has allocated a total of OMR900 million for development projects, with the distribution of funds as follows: 9.6 percent for commodity production, 13.5 percent for services, 32.7 percent for social segments, 33.9 percent for infrastructure, and 10.3 percent for other sectors. The disbursement of the estimated amount will be based on the progress of the projects throughout the year.
The budget for 2024 focuses on prioritizing projects that have a significant impact on society, such as education, health, culture, sports and youth, housing and urban planning, transport, agriculture, fisheries, and water resources.
The Ministry of Finance, in its announcement of the budget, highlighted key projects in the education sector, including the construction of 15 public schools and the tendering process for 20 new schools. Additionally, plans were unveiled for the construction of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences building in Governorate Musandam. The Rowad Oman scholarship program will also provide 150 scholarships over a span of five years, and 150 contracts will be offered for public school buses, with a focus on enhanced safety standards and the replacement of 1,000 buses.
In the health sector, the budget document outlines the completion of seven government hospitals, including Sultan Qaboos Hospital, Salalah, Al Suqaiq Hospital, Wadi Bani Khalid Hospital, Khasab Hospital, Madha Hospital, and Mahout Hospital. Furthermore, three hospitals (Samail, Al Namaa, and Al Falah) will be constructed, along with the completion of two dialysis units. The renovation of two government hospitals and the establishment of the Central Laboratory of Infectious Diseases are also part of the development projects in the health sector.
The development project also encompasses the establishment of the Oman Cultural Complex and the implementation of infrastructure initiatives for Phase I of Sultan Haitham City.
In the realm of transportation, the projects entail the design and construction of an asphalt road connecting Khasab and Dibba, as well as the construction of a road linking Lima in Musandam Governorate.
Furthermore, the remaining sections of Al Batinah Coastal Road Phase I will be designed and constructed, along with the construction of the Al Ansab-Al Jifnain dual-carriage road, the dual-carriage of Sultan Qaboos road in Salalah, the asphalt road in the province of Muqshin in Dhofar Governorate, and the tunnels of Atin intersection with 18 November Street in Salalah.
In the agriculture, fisheries, and water resources sector, the projects encompass the Wadai Adai Dam, Wadi Al-Zhaimi Dam, Masirah multi-purpose port, and Shuwaimiya multi-purpose port.
The Budget also highlights development projects in various Governorates, including the development and maintenance of public parks and waterfront development initiatives.
Additionally, the following projects, recognized as the most outstanding, will be implemented: the Remal Park project, Ames Bay Project, and Rathath Boulevard Project. The projects in the transport sector include the design and construction of an asphalt road between Khasab and Dibba and the road linking Lima in Musandam Governorate.
