Florida: Omani youngsters have the chance to represent their country on the global stage and pursue their aerospace ambitions during a visit to Kennedy Space Centre.
The Omani delegation, selected for NASA's Space Apps Challenge Ibra 2024, visited the Space Centre during their six-day scientific trip to the United States.
The team spoke with retired U. S. astronaut Colonel Woody Spring, who shared his vast expertise in space missions, advanced training, and challenging extravehicular activities.
The delegation performed scientific studies at the Gateway: Deep Space Launch Complex, where participants took part in interactive simulated missions to Mars, Saturn, and TRAPPIST1, supported by immersive audiovisual experiences.
They also participated in IMAX® astronomy presentations that included James Webb Space Telescope images, exploring fundamental questions about the universe's origins and possible extraterrestrial life.
The visit ended with HYPERDECK virtual reality experiences, which simulated lunar landings and resource gathering in a multisensory setting.
Dr. Fatma Nasser Al Harthy, Deputy Chair of NASA's Space Apps Challenge Ibra, emphasized that Omani youngsters may still participate in this amazing event during the next hackathon round, which will take place on 45 October 2025 at the University branch in Ibra.
She emphasised that NASA's challenge serves as a platform for turning ideas into innovations that benefit humanity.a
