Muscat: The Workshop on Enhancing & Regulating Connectivity, organized by the esteemed Crowe, a leading auditing and consulting firm, concluded on Wednesday at the Hormuz Grand Hotel.
This two-day event, focused on the advancement and regulation of connectivity, was attended by a distinguished assembly of delegates, predominantly representatives from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), Oman Broadband, Omantel, Ooredoo, and Vodafone.
The esteemed Vice President of TRA, Omar Al Qatabi, graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
Davis Kallukaran, the Managing Partner of Crowe Oman, extended his warm welcome to the gathering, emphasizing, "In this era of digital technology, our lives are being transformed, enabling advanced services and creating unprecedented opportunities. To ensure Oman's prominence in the digital future, it will necessitate substantial financial resources, world-class oversight, and a collective commitment."
He further elaborated, "The exponential growth in data transmission, both locally and globally, is enhancing our understanding of the environment. The extensive mobile telecommunications infrastructure, including 5G, cloud systems, and data analytics, points towards a future dominated by big data and high transaction volumes."
"The financial implications of these developments are significant, posing new challenges for scientists, policymakers, business managers, and accountants. It is crucial to comprehend the nature of the space sector economy, its measurement, and the assessment of market opportunities and risks," Kallukaran concluded.
In his keynote address, Anna Coast, a finance professional with expertise in regulatory consultations, accounting separations, and radio spectrum valuations, highlighted the importance of understanding the interplay between new communication products, connectivity solutions, and the increasingly complex regulatory frameworks designed to reflect business dynamics and ensure stability through legislative and policy measures.
"It is imperative for customers, suppliers, and investors to grasp the evolving dynamics of cost drivers, the viability of various technology solutions, and the evolution of business models. Investment extends beyond traditional network assets to include operating costs and intangible assets such as spectrum, all of which influence the return and risk profile," she added.
Michael Byrne, an authority on regulation and competition law within the broadcasting, telecommunications, postal, and energy sectors in the UK and Channel Islands, discussed the changing roles of regulators at both national and international levels.
Prof. Hanna Rothkaehl, a senior space scientist from Poland, shed light on pertinent issues in space research, including the impact of space weather on connectivity.
Paul Kallukaran, the Head of Technology at Crowe Oman, expressed his gratitude to the speakers and attendees for their valuable contributions to the event.
