Oman Stages Operetta At ITB Berlin 2024

During the official opening ceremony of ITB Berlin 2024, the Sultanate of Oman showcased a captivating operetta performance. Titled "Discover Oman," this folkloric show took place at the City Cube Theatre in Berlin. Oman's participation in the international extravaganza, which spans from 5th to 7th March, will continue for several days.

Represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Oman presented a visually stunning display consisting of three paintings. These artworks focused on the country's natural landmarks, cultural heritage, and the remarkable progress achieved by Oman.

The operetta not only celebrated Oman's cultural identity but also shed light on Oman Vision 2040. This visionary program plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable tourism development.

The performance featured the Royal Symphony Orchestra, enchanting the audience with classical music, musical performances, national songs, and traditional dances. Additionally, various folklore bands and Omani artists contributed to the operetta, adding their unique touch.

Salim Mohammed Al Mahrooqi, the Minister of Heritage and Tourism, expressed his pride in Oman's well-deserved privilege of being the official partner of IBT Berlin.

In his speech, he emphasized that Oman is looking towards the future with optimism. The country is actively working to expand its tourism sector beyond its borders and collaborate with other GCC countries to create a unified and appealing destination that offers a wide range of choices and experiences.

The minister highlighted the significance of tourism for Oman, noting its remarkable contributions to the economy and society in recent years. It has become a driving force for economic growth, job creation, and the preservation of heritage and culture.

He further expressed that travel is deeply ingrained in the Omani DNA, with their ancestors having ventured to foreign lands for trade, friendship, and cultural exchange for centuries. Omanis are the original global travelers, crossing oceans to explore the known world.

The minister also mentioned the substantial investments being made in Oman, with new vibrant destinations being developed and already visible across the landscape.

Additionally, he emphasized the importance of tourism-friendly legislation in Oman, such as the easing of visa requirements, initiatives driven by investors, empowerment of local communities, a well-planned marketing strategy, and the integration of heritage and cultural elements that reflect the country's authenticity.

Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin, emphasized the challenges faced by the travel and tourism sector, including climate change, high carbon emissions, and a shortage of skilled workers. He urged conference participants to share their opinions and propose measures to address these challenges.

Mayor Kai Wegner welcomed the Sultanate of Oman as an official partner of ITB Berlin 2024, the premier exhibition for exchanging experiences, reviewing new ideas, and exploring trends in the tourism and travel industry. Wegner highlighted that the tourism sector attracted 12 million visitors in 2023.

Julia Simpson, President and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council, predicted further growth in Oman's tourism sector in the coming years. She emphasized the importance of Oman's diverse tourism offerings, particularly its rich ancient history.

Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the UN Tourism, extended an invitation to tourists worldwide to visit the Sultanate of Oman, which he described as a destination abundant with tourism attractions. He also shared positive news about the global tourism sector, with a 3 percent increase in tourist numbers and a spending volume of approximately $3.3 trillion in 2023.

The opening ceremony of ITB Berlin witnessed the presence of 3,000 attendees from over 160 countries, including representatives from tourism companies, decision-makers in the travel sector, and notable political figures.
